3G - Definition
3G is short for Third Generation Wireless Service. It is an upgrade from 2G and 2.5G wireless devices that allows for even greater voice capacity, along with data transmission speeds of 128 - 384 Kbps for moving devices, and a theoretical top speed of 2 Mbps for stationary devices. 3G is expensive to implement as it does require a different spectrum than 2G and 2.5G and entirely new equipment.
