Cache is a special high-speed storage mechanism which can be either a reserved section of main memory or an independent high-speed storage device. The Cache may be either temporary or permanent. Memory and disk caches speed up instruction execution, data retrieval and updating. These temporary caches serve as staging areas where their contents are constantly changing.
