Rich Text Format - Definition
Rich Text Format (RTF) is a document format that can be opened by many word processors. When a Rich Text Format document is read by a word processor, a great deal of the formatting in the document is retained, as opposed to text files, which can be read by nearly all word processors, but contain only minimal formatting. Many Word Processors can save their files into Rich Text Format.
