URL (Uniform Resource Locator) - Definition
URL is an abbreviation for Uniform Resource Locator. It is a standard for locating information (i.e., files) on the world wide web. Typically, the URL contains the form, protocol://host/localinfo where the protocol is ftp, http, gopher, etc. The host would be for example, microsoft.com, and the localinfo would consist of the directories, subdirectories and the file name to reach that specific file.
