Xmodem - Definition
Xmodem is an asynchronous file transfer protocol for personal computers that makes the error free transmission of files through the telephone system easier. Xmodem was created in 1978 by Ward Christensen and became a de facto standard. Xmodem transmits 128-byte blocks. Xmodem-1K improves speed with 1KB blocks. Xmodem-1K-G transmits without acknowledgment for error-free channels or when modems are self correcting, but the transmission is cancelled upon any error.
